Wapda clinches National Women’s Basketball C’ship

ISLAMABAD, OCT 08: Defending Champion Wapda clinches National Women’s Basketball Championship title by defeating strong Pakistan Army with 49-29 points here at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad.

Eight teams Pakistan Wapda, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Islamabad whites, Pakistan Army, Lahore, Islamabad Blues and Peshawar were participated in the five days championship which organized by the Federal Basketball Association.

Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Ehsan ur Rehman Mazari was the chief guest of closing ceremony, while Director General Pakistan Sports Board Col (r ) Asif Zaman, President Pakistan Basketball Federation Brig. (r) Iftikhar Mansoor, Secretary Khalid Bashir, FBBA president Ejaz Butt, secretary Ouj-e-Zahoor and other dignities were also attending closing ceremony.

In the decisive final Wapda dominate throughout the match and never allowed their opponent to fight back for championship trophy. Wapda took lead of 14 points till the half time of decisive final by 28-14points.

Pakistan Wapda ace players Sehrish Nawaz and Sidra Hakim played vital role for the champion team to retains the championship title as Sehrish Nawaz scored 14 points and Sidra Hakim 12 for Wapda while from Army side Fajar scored 9 and Kashifa scored 7 points respectively.

In third position match host Islamabad outclassed favourite Karachi by 31-08 points. Islamabad blues leading match in half time by 25-02 with 23 points difference. Samna Mehboob scoring 11 points while Amani bibi 08 and Asma scored 7points for winning side.
