ISLAMABAD, April 05 (Online): Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag bemoaned the lack of development shown by Prithvi Shaw, after yet another failed stint on the crease for the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday against the Gujarat Titans at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi.
In particular, Sehwag ire was directed to the poor decision making of Shaw and in particular, the one shot that seems to be his reckoning on the pitch. Mohammed Shami delivered a barely short delivery, one which was pulled at by Shaw. But the Mumbai batsman mistimed his shot and the ball ended up being caught by Alzarri Joseph at mid-on.
He has been dismissed playing those kinds of shots so many times but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL. He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores,î he said.
Shawag technique failure was instantly pointed out by Sunil Gavaskar in commentary yesterday. Once again that backfoot has done him in, it doesnít move at all, was Gavaskarís assessment of how Shawís second innings of the IPL 2023 came apart. The backfoot never seemed to move forwards or backwards, nor did it have any of the shift in weight adjustment required to handle that shot.
He has now scored seven from five balls against Gujarat and could only put together 12 of nine balls against the Lucknow SuperGiants on previously. The Delhi Capitals and Shaw next face the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Stadium on Saturday, April 8.
