PSL 2022: Peshawar Zalmi defeat Quetta Gladiators by 5 wickets

KARACHI – January 29 (ONLINE): Peshawar Zalmi in their inaugural game of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 defeated Quetta Gladiators by five wickets.

In the second match of PSL-7, which was played at the National Stadium Karachi, Peshawar Zalmai captain Shoaib Malik won the toss and invited Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfraz Ahmed to bat first.

Quetta Gladiators, owing to master class innings by Will Smeed who scored blistering 97 of 62, gave Peshawar Zalmi a target of 191 runs to chase down.

Quetta Gladiators’ opener Ahsan Ali played a handy knock and posted brilliant 73 of just 46 balls.

Later on, Gladiators’ innings scrambled a bit as no other batsman was able to carry on Ahsan Ali and Will Smeed’s firry attack on bowlers.

Zalmi, in reply chased down the total on loss of five wickets and with two balls to spear. Hussain Talat played a most timely attacking knock and scored 52 of just 29 balls at the back end of the innings.

Shoib Malik implied all his experience and scored steady 48 from 32 to take his team home. Quetta’s Muhammad Nawaz gave a wonderful start to his team, with three early wickets but he was the only Gladiators’ bowler who created problems for Zalmi batsmen.

Three wickets of Muhammad Nawaz could not take Gladiators home. James Faulkner and Naseem Shah took one wicket each.
