KARACHI – February 5 (ONLINE): Karachi Kings on Friday saw fourth consecutive defeats at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) seventh season as the single-time title winners were overcome by Peshawar Zalmi in by nine runs margin.
Karachi Kings captain Babar Azam invited Peshawar Zalmi to bat after winning the toss at National Stadium Karachi in the 11th match of PSL-7.
Kamran Akmal and Hazratullah Zazai provided a solid foundation to Peshawar Zalmi as they built an opening partnership of 53 runs. Zazai went back to pavilion after scoring 41 runs.
Zalmi played a sensible game in middle overs and later on, Shoib Malik played a marvelous knock of 52 runs of just 27 balls. At the end of their innings, Peshawar Zalmi could manage to post a 173-4. Karachi Kings’ Umaid Asif took three wickets while Aamir Yamin sent one Zalmi batter back to pavilion.
In reply, Karachi Kings’ batting lineup trembled at the very beginning as Sharjeel Khan and Sahibzada Farhan could not hold out against Peshawar Zalmi’s bowling attack.
Karachi Kings could only reach 164 for 6 from their twenty overs, falling nine runs short of their target.
Captain Babar Azam played a wonderful knock of 90 runs from 63 balls and he remained not out. No other batsman could support him during the run chase which caused Kings’ to face their fourth back-to-back defeat in the tournament.
Peshawar Zalmi’s young pick Muhammad Umar had a great day in outing as he managed to pick figures of 3-22 from his four overs.
