ISLAMABAD, Former captain Ramiz Raja feels that the Pakistan team were in danger of facing a whitewash at the hands of a second-string England team in their ongoing three-match ODI series.
Pakistan have suffered two back-to-back humiliating defeats against England, losing the first ODI by nine wickets before conceding a 52-run defeat in Saturday’s match.
“If you try to measure Pakistan’s this series defeat on a Richter scale of the earthquake, you will find this is a 15 magnitude jolt. This is a massive blow. I don’t understand how it can be defended now as initially [after the first defeat] some people were of the view that this team should be given some time as it takes time to get acclimatized in England.
“But that argument did not have any strength as they were facing a two number England side. If you take out Ben Stokes, no member of this current outfit will be part of England’s regular team in the near future,” Ramiz said in a video on his YouTube channel.
“We are talking about a glorified county team that has outclassed Pakistan. It was being said [about this England] team that it has been formed in [just] two days and Pakistan had a glorious chance to win the series in England after 40 years. Look how the things have turned that now Pakistan are under the danger of a whitewash,” he added.
The cricketer-turned-commentator raised questions on the performance of coaching staff, selectors and some players and said it was high time for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring changes.
“If the alarm bells don’t ring now I don’t know when these will. Enough is enough now. Fans are heartbroken. Such headlines are unbearable for them,” he said.
