LAHORE – Faizan Fayyaz and Farman Shakeel booked berths in the semifinals of the Millat Tractors Junior National Tennis Championship 2021 after defeating their respective opponents in the quarterfinals played here at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah on Thursday.
The men’s singles quarterfinals saw Faizan Fayyaz defeating Fayyaz Khan 6-4, 6-4 while Gujranwala’s Farman Shakeel outscored Nalain Abbas 6-3, 6-1, Imran Bhatti faced tough resistance from Mian Bilal before winning the nail-biting encounter by 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 and Hasheesh Kumar outpaced Bilal Farooq 6-3, 6-4.
In the ladies singles quarterfinals, Esha Jawad displayed tremendous tennis skills to trounce Soha Ali 6-0, 6-0 while high-flying Haniya Minhas hammered Maleeha Khalid 6-0, 6-2 and talented Zahra Suleman beat spirited Ashtafila Arif 7-6, 6-4. In the girls U-18 quarterfinals, top seed Zahra Suleman outsmarted Soha Ali 6-2, 6-3 while Natalia Zaman overpowered Ashtafila Arif 6-3, 6-1.
In seniors 35 plus doubles quarterfinals, Tariq Sadiq/Kashif Rehmat beat Rana Humayun/Waqas Ahmad Basit 6-1, 6-1, Fayyaz Khan/Arif Feroze beat Shayan Tariq/Muaz Pirzada 6-3, 6-3, Talha Waheed(G&OPL)/Ashar Ali Khan beat Ali Qayyum/Sql Mansoor 6-0, 6-0 and Mehboob Waheed/M Yousaf beat Qasim Ali/Kamran Qureshi 6-1, 6-3. The semifinals of different age categories will be played today (Friday) while the finals will take place tomorrow (Saturday).
