NEW DELHI Oct 03 (Online): India has announced to cancel the opening ceremony of the ICC World Cup.
The World Cup 2023 will start from October 5 at the famous Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the opening match, the finalists of the previous edition, England and New Zealand will clash.
According to Indian media reports, breaking the tradition, there will be no opening ceremony of this major tournament.
The BCCI had earlier planned a grand opening ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 4, a day before the opening match of the tournament at the same venue.
On the occasion of the opening of the 2023 World Cup in India, well-known Indian artists Ranveer Singh, Arjit Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shreya Ghoshal and Asha Bhosle were among the stars who were to present their performances at the ceremony, as well as fireworks and a laser show.
The opening ceremony was supposed to start at 6:30 pm, which was to be held immediately after the Captain’s Day ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium, but the opening ceremony has reportedly been cancelled.
Captains Day in Ahmedabad will see the presence of all ten captains including Pakistan captain Babar Azam.
Indian media claims that the opening ceremony of the World Cup has been canceled due to some technical glitch.
On the other hand, the Indian media said that the BCCI is considering holding a function in this regard before the final session or before the India-Pak match in Ahmedabad on October 14.
However, no official announcement has been made regarding the cancellation of the opening ceremony or the change in the date.
The Pakistani team will begin their tournament campaign on October 6 where they will face the Netherlands, who have qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup for the fifth time.
