Online hybrid interdisciplinary training in physical health launches at Paraplegic Centre Peshawar

PESHAWAR, September 15 (ONLINE): Paraplegic Centre Peshawar has launched unique hybrid interdisciplinary training in the field of medical education in collaboration with the international online educational organization PhysioPedia, whereby renowned trainers of physical disabilities will provide online training to physical rehabilitation professionals from across the country.

The start of this training program has been made immediately while at the end of this online training the participants will also be given practical training at the Paraplegic Centre Peshawar.

The participants graduating from the training will not only be aware of modern clinical and research activities, but they will also have opportunities to implement theory, practical and research work at Paraplegic Centre Peshawar.

In the first part of this series, a three-day training workshop was organized for nominated physiotherapists, occupational therapists, orthotists and psychologists from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, wherein the international organization “Relab HS” USAID also provided support.

The training turned out to be a standard international training workshop in all respects which was well received by the participants. Rehab professionals from all fields of prominent educational institutions, hospitals and rehab centres of Karachi, Hyderabad and Peshawar not only came to improve their academic and practical skills, but they also got impressed by the outstanding performance of the staff of the Paraplegic Centre Peshawar and the patients there.

Trainers of Paraplegic Centre Peshawar Dr. Gohar Rehman, Dr. Nazish Faiz, Mukhlis Razzaq, Sameera Muzaffar and Shafiq Dawar captivated the hearts of the medical professionals by imparting practical training with the utmost missionary spirit who hailed from the remote areas of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The participants confessed this fact in the closing ceremony.

The head of the institution, Dr. Syed Muhammad Ilyas, while addressing the participants at the end of this unique training, clarified that physical rehabilitation is also a part of modern medical sciences like medicine and surgery, but unfortunately, no attention has been paid to its promotion in the past. On this occasion, Senior Physiotherapist and Dean of Rahman Medical Institute and Allied Health Sciences Muhammad Bin Afsar Jan remarked that as compared to other government hospitals, whenever he comes to the paraplegic centre, something new is definitely happening here.

He said that it is very gratifying that there are institutions in the public sector which are moving forward despite traditional obstacles. He further said that arranging such training and inculcating renewal missionary spirit and traditions is in fact Herculean task and we have to come out of the shell of limited thinking and move forward in this modern era of medical sciences for the development of this sector. The participant from Sindh Mrs. Neelam Zahra exclaimed in her address that Paraplegic Centre Peshawar is truly an exemplary medical and educational institution and she came here to see the practical example of interdisciplinary approach.
