Medical Experts Stress Preventive Measures to Combat Backache and Spine Disorders

MIRPUR (AJK), Dec 15 (APP): Seasoned medical experts have highlighted the common causes of backache and spinal disorders, including age-related degenerative changes, trauma and injuries, muscle weakness, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, congenital abnormalities, infections, and occupational hazards. They emphasized the need for adopting preventive measures to avert long-term complications associated with spinal diseases.

The experts underscored the importance of maintaining proper posture, engaging in regular exercise, practicing safe lifting techniques, managing body weight, taking frequent breaks during work, ensuring proper sleep care, avoiding smoking, and seeking early medical consultation to prevent the progression of spinal disorders.

They were addressing a day-long seminar on Backache and Spine Disorders, hosted by the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), District Mirpur, in collaboration with Chief Executive Riaz Hospital, Dr. Riaz Ahmed. The seminar focused on preventive strategies and modern treatment approaches aimed at improving patient care.

The symposium was attended by more than 100 senior faculty members, consultants, senior doctors, and a large number of junior doctors. The expert panel included Prof. Dr. Zardad, Prof. Dr. Wasim Abbasi, Associate Professor Dr. Ihsan-ul-Haq, Senior Registrar Orthopaedics Mohyuddin Medical College Dr. Waqas Zafar, and Assistant Professor Neurosurgeon Dr. Waqas.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the state-run Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College, Mirpur AJK, Prof. Dr. Faisal Bashir, said that such academic activities play a vital role in guiding and educating young doctors while enabling the implementation of modern and effective treatment methods for better patient care.

He commended President PMA District Mirpur Associate Professor Dr. Ejaz Ahmed Raja, Chief Executive Riaz Hospital Dr. Riaz Ahmed, and the organizing team for their efforts in successfully arranging the one-day academic and training symposium on backache, spine disorders, and their modern management.

The symposium was graced by internationally renowned Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon Prof. Dr. Tariq Sohail as the guest of honor, while Prof. Dr. Faisal Bashir presided over the event. Senior Children Specialist Dr. Rizwan Bostan also addressed the ceremony.

In his welcome address, Associate Professor Dr. Ejaz Ahmed Raja expressed gratitude to the guest of honor, senior faculty members, consultants, and participating doctors. He highlighted Prof. Dr. Tariq Sohail’s outstanding contributions to the medical field and his international recognition.

Dr. Ejaz informed the audience that Prof. Dr. Tariq Sohail, a graduate of King Edward Medical College, Lahore, holds a Master of Surgery in Orthopaedics from the University of Liverpool, UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as a Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences. Prof. Dr. Sohail has represented Pakistan at over 100 national and international conferences and has nearly 100 research publications, several textbooks, and notable innovations in spine surgery to his credit.

On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Tariq Sohail donated copies of his authored books on Orthopaedics and Spine Surgery to the medical college library, which were received by Principal Prof. Dr. Faisal Bashir.

Prof. Dr. Tariq Sohail also delivered a comprehensive lecture on backache and spinal disorders, sharing modern diagnostic techniques and treatment approaches. His scholarly contributions and teaching style were highly appreciated by the expert panel and participants.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Riaz Ahmed expressed appreciation to all participating doctors and emphasized the need to continue such academic and training activities in the future.

At the conclusion of the event, guests were presented with souvenirs, while young participating doctors were awarded special certificates in recognition of their efforts and contributions to the successful organization of the symposium.
