MUMBAI, SEP 3 (ONLINE) Shakti Kapoor turned a year wiser today and on the special occasion, we take a look back at the time when he spoke about celebrating his special day with none other than the late Rishi Kapoor.
In a throwback interview with E Times after Rishi’s demise, Shakti shared, “My birthday falls on September 3 and his on September 4. We both share the same birth year – 1952. He is one day younger than me. My life with Rishi Kapoor goes way back. I must have done 25-30 films with him. Some of the popular films that I can remember are Manmohan Desai’s ‘Naseeb’, David Dhawan’s ‘Bol Radha Bol’, ‘Eena Meena Deeka’ and who can forget the film ‘Sargam’. It was one of the biggest blockbusters. So we have shared quite a bit of our lives together.
Talking about the bond that he shared with Rishi, Shakti added, “There are very few people in my life who have stood by me and he was one of them. As we had our birthdays one day apart, he once asked me why I am not celebrating mine as lavishly as he did. I told him that I didn’t have the kind of money to throw a party like him and call 100 people. Since then, he started celebrating his birthday one day in advance with mine so that we could celebrate it together. He threw a bash for me at the RK studios a few times. There used to be two cakes, one had his name and the other had mine.
“That was the time when people in the industry started noticing me. People used to say, ‘Haan Shakti Kapoor bhi koi chiz hai industry mein jiska birthday Rishi Kapoor mana raha hai!’ When our children were young, we went on some vacations together. I still have the pictures of our kids together somewhere. Rishi was very intelligent and imaginative. I don’t have to say that he was one of the finest actors. Once he considers you his friend, he is very committed to you,” he concluded.
