Indian lyricist, playback singer, and actor Swanand Kirkire was deeply shocked upon hearing about the passing of Pakistani musician Haniya Aslam.
Haniya, from the renowned duo Zeb-Haniya, passed away on Sunday night after suffering a cardiac arrest. The heartbreaking news was shared by Zeb on Instagram. In response, Swanand Kirkire expressed his shock in the comments section, writing, “WTF… what happened? OMG.”
Swanand also took to his Instagram Stories to share his grief, writing, “This is not fair, God… This sweet girl, my dear Haniya, is no more.
She suffered a cardiac arrest. Haniya and I shared a special bond. She was an exceptional musician and the purest soul I’ve ever met. Rest in Peace.” He also shared a screenshot of his last conversation with Haniya.

Sharing a screenshot of their chat, Swanand Kirkire revealed that he and Haniya were working on an album together before her untimely passing. He wrote, “My dearest Haniya Aslam @citrushaniya is no more. She suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away peacefully last night. We shared a special bond when we collaborated on @dewarists 2 for the song ‘Kaho kya khayal hai.’ I’m sharing our last conversation, which took place just a few days ago. We were working on an unfinished album together.”
In a heartfelt message to Zeb, Swanand Kirkire wrote, “@zebbangash, sending you and your family a big hug. May God give you the strength to cope with this loss. Haniya, we will see you on the other side. Until then, your sweet voice and melodious guitar riffs will continue to echo in our hearts, reminding us of the deep loss of losing you.” Zeb responded in the comments, expressing her gratitude, “
Love you, Swanand, and she truly loved you too.”
Meanwhile, Kiran Rao also expressed her shock in the comments section, as she wrote, “I can’t believe it. RIP, dearest Haniya.” Singer-musician Ankur Tewari added, “This is shocking. I just spoke with her a couple of weeks ago.”
For the unversed, Haniya Aslam is best known as one-half of the musical duo Zeb and Haniya.
