ISLAMABAD Oct 29 (Online): Palestinian-American model Bella Hadid has penned her name down in an open letter to US President Biden, calling for an end to Israel’s war on Gaza. Hadid shared an Instagram carousel with the letter’s contents and names of other signees from various creative fields.
Expressing her concerns about the humanitarian crisis affecting Palestinians, Hadid said in the post’s caption, “This is the most intense bombardment in the history of Gaza.”
“US White House National Security Council dangerously said Israel ‘owes no-one any justification’ and that it will have ‘no red lines’. Innocent lives should always be justified in the name of humanity,” she further added.
The letter was written in a joint initiative with Oxfam America to represent a collective of artists encompassing musicians, actors, and other creatives who stand against Israel’s unrelenting military assault on Palestinians.
Among the notable figures endorsing the letter are Dua Lipa, Andrew Garfield, Macklemore, Diplo, Caroline Polachek, and Ben Affleck, unambiguously declaring that “all life is sacred” and “the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians” is condemnable regardless of “faith or ethnicity”.
Hadid reminded her followers about Israel’s complete telecommunications and electricity blackout in Gaza and the critical implications of the move. “Injured civilians currently can’t call ambulances. Medics are begging reporters to let them know where bombardments are happening, but reporters don’t know either because of the internet outage,” she stated.
The model ended her short note, emphasising the urgent need for intervention, saying, “The people of Gaza have nowhere to go. Children are dying. Please.” This post from Hadid comes shortly after she finally released her comments on the Israel-Palestine war since October 7 Hamas attack.
While her sister and fellow supermodel, Gigi Hadid, promptly acknowledged the latest wave of brutality unfolding in the region, both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli audiences had been awaiting the celebrity’s comments.
Taking to Instagram, Hadid posted a TikTok montage video showing the devastation in Gaza and the West Bank, followed by a long note where she apologised for her “silence” and condemned Israel’s longstanding occupation of Palestinian lands.
