Sanjay Leela Bhansali on ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ winning 10 Filmfare tropies: I feel all our hard work has paid off

ISLAMABAD, April 28 (Online): The Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2023 took place last night and it was attended by several Bollywood celebrities. While Salman Khan turned host for the event with Maniesh Paul, one saw rocking performances from Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, and Jacqueline Fernandez among others.

For some, it was a night of celebration as they took home the black lady. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ won ten trophies. While Alia Bhatt bagged the ‘Best Actor In A Leading Role (Female) for her stellar act as Gangu, Bhansali won the best director. The film also won awards in categories like ‘Best Choreography’ and ‘Best Dialogue’ among others.

Feeling elated, Bhansali expresses, “It’s a great moment for us. It’s a great day for us and I feel all our hard work has finally paid off. It’s a film we believed in and I’m very happy I made the film. I’m very happy Alia acted in the film and Ajay Devgn and all the other great actors who have acted in the film and all the technicians…it’s a very happy moment for all of us. We have worked all through the lockdown and COVID so it’s always special.”

Alia is also thrilled as she penned a long thank you note while posing with her black lady. She said, “Gangu meri jaan” my alter ego, belongs to you Sanjay sir. Thank you for believing in me, so I could believe in myself. I will forever be in your debt!”

The film did well even at the box office and clocked in Rs 153 crore at the domestic box office.
