KARACHI 20 Nov (Online): Actor Adnan Malik is stunned after watching ‘Joyland’ in the cinema with his whole family. The Sadqe Tumhare star took to Twitter to commend the “masterful slice of life,” which released in cinemas across Pakistan on Friday, excluding Punjab.
The actor tagged makers Saim Sadiq and Sarmad Khoosat to let them know his thoughts. “Just watched Joyland in the cinema with my whole family and I am stunned. The silence present in every scene is imbued with so much longing for a different tomorrow. The film is in my bones,” he commented.
After the Censor Board of Federal Certification (CBFC) green-lit Saim Sadiq’s Joyland on Wednesday, Punjab Censor Board banned the film on Thursday evening. The Ministry of Information and Culture Punjab issued a notice. It stated that the board has directed Sarmad Sultan Khoosat not to release the film. While speaking to the publication, a representative of the Sindh Censor Board shared that the film will be released in the province with the previously decided cuts.
Pakistan’s official submission to the Oscars was halted after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting cancelled its exhibition license upon complaints of “objectionable material that does not conform with the social values and moral standards of our society,” months after it was issued by the federal government.
Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms head Salman Sufi announced Wednesday on Twitter, “The film Joyland has been cleared for release by the Censor board review committee formed at the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Freedom of speech is a fundamental right and should be nourished within ambits of the law.”
