Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan starrer ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ to not release in Mumbai: Report
After over two decades, a Pakistani film was gearing up for release in India, but has been met with some stiff opposition from Mumbai. The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is all set to hit the screens across the country on October 2.
Distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla confirmed to the portal that the film will release only in the Punjab circuit for now and is expected to have a strong debut. He also expressed that if The Legend of Maula Jatt strikes a chord with the audience in Punjab then the makers may consider releasing it in the South. The film was previously expected to hit the screens around December 2022, but was delayed and it is not available on OTT. The lead actors, Mahira and Fawad, enjoy massive popularity across the globe and have also worked in Bollywood films like Raees and Khoobsurat, respectively.
The Legend of Maula Jatt, directed by Bilal Lashari and written by Nasir Adeeb, is inspired from 1989 film Maula Jatt. This remake puts the spotlight on Maula Jatt, a village hero who is driven by a quest for vengeance after the tragic loss of his family. His journey pits him against Noori Natt, a notorious and equally formidable villain, igniting a deadly rivalry. Upon its release, The Legend of Maula Jatt emerged as a huge money spinner at the box office. The film has earned nearly Rs 400 crore at the worldwide box office.
