ISLAMABAD, April 28 (Online): The 68th Hyundai Filmfare Awards were a star studded event with Salman Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana hosting the night.
There were scintillating performances by Govinda, Tiger Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez and others. But in the midst all the razzmatazz and glamour, great cinema was celebrated and gems like Sanjay Mishra-Neena Gupta’s Vadh, Nagraj Manjule-Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund and Ayushmann Khurrana-Anubhav Sinha’s Anek also made a mark.
The evening saw popular films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra and Badhaai Do win maximum honours, but the applause and cheer for awards won by the critically appreciated films was equally loud. One of the stands out wins of the night was for actor Sanjay Mishra who won the Best Actor (Critics’) Award for his heart-wrenching performance in Vadh. Needless to say, Sanjay Mishra was as elated and exuberant with his victory as the crowd in attendance. Vadh was produced by Luv Ranjan and the thriller also won Best Debut Director Awards for the duo of Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Rajeev Barnwal.
Another well-received film that won an important award was Nagraj Manjule’s sports drama Jhund that had Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. Young actor Ankush Gedam who acted opposite Mr Bachchan had created enough of an impact to win the Best Debut Male Award. More new talent was celebrated when the Best Debut Female Award was given to Andrea Kevichusa for Anek, where she impressed one and all alongside Ayushmann Khurrana.
On the night, titles like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Badhaai Do and Brahmastra may have dominated but the fact that films like Vadh, Jhund and Anek also made an important impact and reminded one and all that good cinema is always celebrated.
