MUMBAI 26 july (Online): A complainant has asked for an FIR to be registered and said the actor insulted the modesty of women with his photographs.
Indian actor Ranveer Singh’s recent nude photo-shoot garnered a lot of attention online and as usual, netizens resorted to memes to get through it. The jokes may have died down but it appears not everyone is over it yet. An application was filed with the Mumbai police against the actor for “hurting the sentiments of women” through the photos.
On Monday, an office-bearer of a non-governmental organisation called Shyam Mangaram Foundation sought the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the Bollywood actor, according to The Huindustan Times. The complainant stated the actor hurt the “sentiments” of women and insulted their modesty through his photographs.
“Last week we saw many nude photographs were clicked in such a manner that any male or female will feel ashamed about it,” read the complaint, emphasising that these kinds of acts should be strongly opposed.
It was submitted at the Chembur police station and the complainant demanded the registration of a case against the 83 actor under the Information Technology Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
“We received an application from a person associated with an NGO on Monday. No FIR is registered so far. We are enquiring,” an official told ANI news agency.
Some Bollywood stars have come to Singh’s defence. Gangubai actor Alia Bhatt was asked for her opinion on the matter and the criticism at the trailer launch for her upcoming film Darling. She replied, “I don’t like anything negative said about my favourite costar Ranveer Singh, I can’t even tolerate this question. I love him, he’s eternally favourite to every one of us actually and he has given us so much in the movies. We should only give him love.”
