Orientation Session on Undergraduate Education Policy

Islamabad, March 1, 2024: The Curriculum Division of Higher Education Commission (HEC) organized an orientation session on Undergraduate Education Policy 2023 for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at HEC Regional Centre, Peshawar.

As many as 43 focal persons from 35 Universities/HEIs of the province attended the two days session. Engr. Muhammad Raza Chohan, Adviser (Academics and Curriculum) HEC joined the session online and briefed the participants about the transformation process linking the previous policies and frameworks. He highlighted the participatory approach carried out by involving all relevant stakeholders in finalizing the UEP 2023.

Deputy Director HEC, Mr. Hidayatullah Kasi shared a detailed presentation on the policy items related to admission, nomenclature of the degree programme, academic advisory to students, purpose and offerings of General Education courses, credits dedicated for Major, Inter-disciplinary and minor courses, degree offerings with Single Major, Single Major with One Minor, Single Major with Double Minor and Double Major, the mandatory components of Capstone project and credited field experience.

The structure of Associate Degrees and lateral entry in BS/equivalent programme was also discussed in detail. Similarly, the policy item related to Exit from four-year degree programmes in the form of Associate Degree under certain circumstances was also elaborated. Various queries of the participants were also addressed and clarified by Mr. Kasi.
