Islamabad/Quetta, April 21, 2025: Building upon its efforts to elevate the quality of research in higher education institutions, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan held the 2nd Editors Orientation Capacity Building Workshop on Journal Recognition at Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Quetta.
This initiative is part of HEC’s long-standing efforts to align the editorial practices of local research journals with international publishing standards. The workshop, led by Dean Faculty of Management at Virtual University Prof. Dr. Ather Azim, brought together around 40 editorial professionals, researchers, and faculty from across Balochistan.
Vice Chancellor BUITEMS Dr. Khalid Hafeez presided over the closing ceremony. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of capacity building programmes in improving the quality and credibility of academic publishing in Pakistan.
The workshop featured interactive sessions on critical areas, such as editorial policy formulation, best practices in peer review, ethical standards in publishing, improving journal visibility and indexing, and compliance with global directories like Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
Organized by HEC’s Research Journals Section, the workshop is part of a nationwide series, comprising six on-site events and one virtual session. It is aimed to ensure widespread impact and accessibility. The initiative reinforces HEC’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s research ecosystem and promoting global academic integration.
