British Council, SBBWUP to ink MoU for Scottish scholarships for female students

PESHAWAR, Sep 29 (APP):British Council Country Director Asim Ramazan Wednesday said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar (SBBWUP) for the provision of Scottish scholarships for the female students.

Addressing a one-day panel discussion on ‘Role of Women in Higher Education-the way forward’, he said the Scottish scholarship would soon be resumed whereas under the Pakistan-United Kingdom (UK) gateway, the university would be provided opportunities to create linkages with different universities in the UK for research collaborations and exchange programmes.

British Council Director Education Dr Nishat Riaz in her discussion enlightened about the limitations and barriers faced by women in general and emphasized upon making strategies to materialize ideas and initiatives for betterment of society especially in the field of higher education.
She said women were creative and could bring about many ideas. The participants, in their respective field of education shared research oriented ideas and proposed solutions.

In her address, the SBBWUP vice chancellor said 90 per cent of the staff in the university comprised of females and all of them were excelling in their domains apart from their domestic responsibilities yet they did not miss a day to bring about new and creative ideas.
They were progressive and the management had high level of expectations from them which they never failed to meet.

They were inspiration for the students, she said and added over time the female youth of KP had drastically inclined towards higher education which was an achievement.
She said most of the students desiring to pursue higher education belong to unprivileged backgrounds and for them different scholarships were being offered.

The Scottish scholarship was granted to university till 2018 and we wish if it may be resumed so that more students may be benefited.
She also said the university was offering different entrepreneurial forums for the students and with so many efforts, the federal government launched the pilot project of ‘Kamiyab Jawan’ only to SBBWUP in KP under which up till now more than 2,500 students had received trainings and the cycle was continued.

The vice chancellor of university with all head of departments and administrative staff members participated in the discussion and contributed their ideas.
