Petition against hike in petroleum products prices: Court issues notice to respondents

LAHORE, Aug 07 (Online): The court has issued notice to the respondents and sought reply from them while hearing miscellaneous petition filed against hike in the prices of petroleum products.

The miscellaneous petition filed by Judicial Activism Panel came up for hearing before Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad of Lahore High Court here Monday.

The petitioner has taken plea in the petition government has done injustice to the people by scaling up prices of petroleum products. It will trigger new storm of inflation. The court should order government to withdraw the decision of raising prices of petroleum products.

On the other hand a petition against hike in the electricity tariff has been filed in human cell of Supreme Court registry.

The petition has been filed by Mudassar Chaudhry advocate taking the plea that unprecedented increase has been made in power tariff and now the cost of per unit has reached Rs 50 . The poor people have been forced to commit suicide due to this spike in the tariff.

He requested the court to order for stopping the rise in the power tariff forthwith.
