KP govt inks 44 MoUs worth $8 billion at Dubai investment conference

PESHAWAR, Jan 16 (APP):The Government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) has signed 44 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth 8 billion dollars for investment in KP during the Investment conference in Dubai on the sidelines of Dubai Expo 2020, said an official handout issued here on Sunday.

The MoUs were signed for investment in various sectors including integrated tourism zones, establishment of water sports at Hund (Swabi), industries, energy & power, infrastructure, food processing, livestock and others.

During the Expo the provincial government displayed new projects for the development of tourism and culture sectors in better manner that attracted investors and resulted in the signing of various MoUs.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Taimur Khan Jhagra was the chief guest while Additional Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Provincial Minister Shaukat Yousafzai, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Trade and Industries Abdul Karim Khan, Pakistan Ambassador to UAE Afzaal Mahmood, Secretary for Sports, Tourism, Archaeology, Culture, Museums and Youth Affairs Amir Sultan Tareen, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) Director General Kamran Ahmad Afridi and others attended the conference.

Taimur Jhagra said that Pakistan and particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has huge potentials of investment in tourism sector.He said that efforts were being made to boost tourism on pattern of UAE in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The minister said provincial government was introducing integrated tourism zones related projects to follow the pattern of Dubai model of economic zones and tourism. For this purpose, he said the government has presented tourism sector related projects in the Expo.

He highlighted that KP is the only province of Pakistan, which had completed infrastructure projects within its own resources under public-private partnership; beside hydropower projects are underway to made the life easier for common man.

Secretary Tourism Amir Sultan Tareen, KPCTA DG Kamran Ahmad Afridi, DG Pakistan Trade Development Authority Rizwan Tariq, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade (KP-BOIT) Chief Executive Officer Hassan Daud Butt and others briefed the investors about investment opportunities in various sectors.

The Chief Executive KP Economic Zone Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC), Javed Iqbal Khattak was also among the panel members to speak about investments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the investors conference.

The CEO-KPEZDMC signed 11 MoUs out of the total 40-plus MoUs signed during the investment including a tripartite MoU was signed between PEDO, Infra Co Asia and KPEZDMC for solarization of all economic zones in KP.

On this occasion, the Provincial Minister for Labour & Culture, Shaukat Yousafzai said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offers huge opportunities of investment in tourism, energy and other sectors.
