ISLAMABAD, MAY 31 (ONLINE): National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved hike in power tariff by Rs 3.99 per unit.
This increase in tariff will entail additional financial burden of over Rs 51 billion to consumers.
Meeting of NEPRA was held here under its chairman Tausif H Bokhari Tuesday to hear the plea by power distribution companies seeking hike in power tariff by Rs 4.05 per unit.
Central Power Purchasing Agency |(CPPA) while presenting application in connection with fuel price adjustment for the month of April said 12.55 billion units of electricity were generated last month at the overall cost of Rs 133 billion.
The electricity was produced through diesel at the cost of Ss 27 per unit, through furnace oil at the rate of Rs 28 per unit, through LNG at the rate of Rs 16 per unit, and through coal at the rate of Rs 14 per unit. Loss to the tune of Rs 31 per unit was caused due to line losses.
Vice Chairman NEPRA said that cheaper power plant is lying dysfunctional for want of fuel.
It was told in the briefing that costly fuel is major cause behind the costly electricity.
Chairman NEPRA remarked during the hearing “don’t work on guess. Solution to problems of power system be found. Loadshedding is being observed 18 hours.
The decision in hike in power tariff will be applicable to all power distribution companies except K-Electric.
NEPA said authority will release its detailed decision after further scrutinizing the data.
