FBR, FPCCI discuss tax issues, refunds and retailers’ scheme

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial met with a delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Karachi as part of his monthly visit to the city.

The delegation was led by Saquib Fayyaz Magoon and included senior office bearers and business leaders, while the Chairman was accompanied by Member Inland Revenue (Operations), Member Customs (Operations) and senior FBR officers.

The meeting was held as a follow-up to the earlier meeting to review progress on various matters discussed previously.

The FPCCI delegation appreciated the Chairman’s initiative of making monthly visits to Karachi, describing it as a positive step reflecting the government’s commitment to sustained and direct engagement with the business community.

The delegation said regular interaction had significantly improved communication between the FBR and trade bodies, enabling issues to be raised and addressed in a timely manner.

It also acknowledged that most of the issues raised during the previous meeting had been resolved through the efforts of Member Operations (Inland Revenue and Customs) and their respective teams, describing the responsiveness as encouraging for the business community.

During the meeting, the delegation stressed the need for continued follow-up on remaining outstanding matters and raised some new issues, including classification matters and old income tax refunds.

The Chairman and his team assured the delegation that all pending and newly raised issues would be taken up on a priority basis and resolved in consultation with representatives of the chambers and relevant FBR wings.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman FBR reiterated his commitment to resolving business community issues and maintaining regular engagement with trade bodies.

He said the FBR would continue adopting a facilitative and responsive approach toward the business community, adding that regular engagement with organizations including FPCCI would help address taxpayer concerns promptly and further strengthen trust between the tax administration and the business community.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman FBR requested FPCCI leaders to effectively campaign for the retailers’ scheme to broaden the tax base and help share the tax burden currently borne by compliant taxpayers.
