Our ancestors sacrificed all to fight off Mahraja’s tyranny, oppression: Prime Minister AJK

Rawalpindi(PID AJK) Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi while paying eulogizing tributes to legendry freedom fighters who raised the banner of revolt against the Dogra Maharaja to free the motherland of his slavery.

The AJK PM expressed these views while addressing a function of Sadhan Educational Conference here on Sunday.Speaking on the occasion he said that the people of the liberated territory owe a debt of gratitude to our forefathers, who toiled hard to liberate the territory from the tyrant Maharaja. “They bled, they sacrificed all to fight off tyranny and oppression”, he said, adding they were skinned off by the Maharaja. Remembering the great sacrifices rendered by Ghazi-e-Milat Sardar Muhammad Ibraheem Khan, Mujahid-e-Awal Sardar, Sardar Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan, Baba Poonch Colonel Khan Muhammad Khan and the Karelivi family, he said, it is their matchless sacrifices that we breath under free skies. Terming Col, Khan Muhammad Khan as Sir Syed of Poonch, the PM said that the deceased leader would be remembered for long time in the annals of Kashmir history for his social and political services.

He said that the nations who forget the sacrifices of their forefathers are doomed to perish. “Our land and our conscience are one”, he said adding that Azad Kashmir is a state, with distinct identity. “AJK is neither a province nor a country, it is the base camp of Kashmir’s freedom movement”, the PM said adding that the government of the base camp was committed to fulfil its responsibilities vis-à-vis the ongoing liberation struggle going on in the occupied Kashmir.

Referring to the federal government’s role to facilitate the people of Azad Kashmir, the PM said that Prime Minister Imran Khan extended health card facilities to AJK to benefit the downtrodden segments of the society. Kashmiris, he said, consider Prime Minister Imran Khan as their benefactor.

He said that his government was working in line with the vision of PM Imran Khan to ensure progress and prosperity in the region. “The PTI government does not just make announcements, as we believe in practical measures”. Kotli, he said, is a historic district but previous governments could not give it the status of big city. PM Niazi said that after assuming the office he announced the Big-City status for Kotli and a notification in this regard was issued within a few days.

Others who spoke on the occasion included former President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Former President Sardar Anwar Khan, Former Minister Begum Shamshad Aziz, Member Kashmir Council Sardar Abdul Razzaq, former member Kashmir Council Sardar Abdul Khaliq Wasi, DG Liberation Cell Irshad Mahmud, former government adviser Murtaza Durrani and others.
