Increase in suig gas bills case: SC adjourns hearing of petitions for one month

ISLAMABAD, JUNE 14 (ONLINE): Supreme Court (SC) has adjourned till next month hearing of different petitions related to increase in sui gas bills.
The case came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial Wednesday.

During the hearing of the case Khalid Javed counsel for SSGCL company told the court Sui Gas license companies give proposals on gas expenses to OGRA

He further said OGRA determines the prices keeping in view proposals of companies.
According to section 8 and 3 of ordinance-2002 OGRA determines the prices. After determining the prices , OGRA sends summary of prices to federal government.

On OGRA proposals federal government determines the prices within 40 days and issues notification.

On July 01, 2014, OGRA determined the prices and sent them to federal government. After passage of 40 days time federal government issued notification about determination of the prices. SSGCL and other companies filed claim in Sindh High Court

The petitioners took the stance that if prices are not determined within stipulated time then the prices be determined next year.

Sindh High Court remarked the prices cannot be determined after passage of stipulated period.

The SC maintained after hearing the arguments of counsel for SSGCL that matter is being adjourned till next month. A 3-member bench will hear this case during vacations.
