EC reserves judgment in ANP intra party election case

ISLAMABAD, DEC 21 (ONLINE): Election Commission (EC) has reserved judgment in Awami National Party (ANP) intra party election case.

A five member commission of EC under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) took up the case for hearing Thursday.

Asfand Yar Wali president ANP was present on the occasion. While DG political finance wing Masood Sherani gave briefing to EC in regard to intra party election of ANP.

The counsel told the EC we were told that six months are given to us. If the election is not completed within 6 months then the election be held again.

CEC said why the intra party elections were not held. Election symbol will not be allotted to you in this situation. You will not be able to take part in the election.

EC authorities said ANP has sought adjournment in connection with intra party election. 5 years will be completed on May 01, 2024.

Counsel for ANP said constitution says the slots will be for four years but cabinet will continue to work in the event of the polls. It remained confusion in six months if the election is taking place or otherwise.

The CEC said the way you are talking means the election is not needed. What is it that election will be held or not. What is its concern with your party election? Commission has no authority after five years.

Adfand Yar Wali said this request is made on this occasion 6 months time be given to us.

CEC said we have heard your arguments. Don’t consider it that period has been extended.
