LAHORE Nov 18 (Online): Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed the appointment of former Test captain Muhammad Yousuf as the head coach of Pakistan U-19.
Umar Gul has been appointed as the new bowling coach of Pakistan Cricket Team and Sohail Tanveer has been appointed as the head of the Junior Selection Committee.
Muhammad Yusuf’s first assignments include the Under-19 Asia Cup 2023 in the United Arab Emirates from December 8 to 17 and the Under-19 ICC World Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka from January 13 to February 4.
49-year-old Muhammad Yousuf, who previously served as the batting coach of the Pakistan Men’s team and at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore,
Yousaf is one of Pakistan’s most prominent batsmen. He scored 7,530 runs in test cricket in his international career from 1998 to 2010 and scored 9,720 ODI runs.
He held the record for most Test runs in a single year when he scored 1788 runs in 11 matches in the Red Ball format in 2006 with the help of 9 centuries and 7 half-centuries at an average of 99.33, and broke Sir Vivian Richards’ 30-year-old record.
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the bowling coach of the national team, Morne Morkel, has already resigned, Umar Gul will soon be handed over the regular duties.
Sources claimed that PCB will soon issue a notification for the appointment of Umar Gul. Umar Gul will go along with national cricket team as a bowling coach in the tour of Australia.
PCB has appointed former cricketer Sohail Tanveer as the head of the national junior selection committee.
Sohail Tanveer’s first assignment will be the selection of the Pakistan U-19 team for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from December 8 to 17, followed by the Pakistan U-19 team in Sri Lanka from January 13 to February 4. He will participate in the ICC U-19 World Cup.
According to PCB, Sohail Tanveer said that this appointment is an honor for him for which he thanks PCB Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf, it is a very important responsibility and he is ready for this challenge.
Sohail Tanveer said that our first responsibility is to form a strong team for the U-19 Asia Cup and the U-19 World Cup.
Remember that Sohail Tanveer started his international career in 2007, he represented Pakistan in 2 Tests, 62 One Day Internationals and 57 T20 International matches and took a total of 130 wickets in all three formats and scored 612 runs.
