President has no powers to pardon punishments of Hudud crimes: IIC

ISLAMABAD, October 13 (Online): Islamic Ideological Council (IIC) has made it clear that president is empowered under article 145 of the constitution to pardon or reduce the punishment but according to the Holy Quran and Sunnah he is not authorized to pardon punishment of Hudud crimes.

According to IIC spokesperson the statement attributed to Dr Qibla Ayaz regarding the constitutional powers of the president for pardoning punishment is being presented on certain news channels, websites and in whats app groups out of context.

The matter of powers of president about pardoning punishment is laid down in article 45 of the constitution and this matter was not on the agenda of recent meeting.
