Petition for contempt of court filed against Chief Secretary Punjab

Lahore OCTOBER 04 (Online): A contempt of court petition was filed against Chief Secretary Punjab for not taking a decision on the formation of a judicial commission to investigate Jaranwala tragedy within the prescribed period of law despite order of Lahore High Court (LHC).

Citizen Asher Sarfaraz filed a petition for contempt of court against Chief Secretary Punjab in which Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman was made a respondent in petition.

He took stance that he filed a petition for the formation of judicial commission to investigate Jaranwala tragedy.

Lahore High Court ordered the Chief Secretary to take a decision on pending petition in accordance with law.

Despite the court order, Chief Secretary did not make decision within 15 days. Chief Secretary committed contempt of court by not following the court order therefore court should initiate contempt of court proceedings against Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman.
