Care taker government all set to hike gas tariff

ISLAMABAD, SEP 23 (ONLINE): The care taker government is all set to hike gas tariff under IMF directives.

According to ministry of petroleum sources the price of local and imported is likely to be fixed same from October 01. Subsidy is likely to be abolished in the gas tariff of domestic consumers, fertilizer and captive power plants.

Summary for hiking gas tariff is likely to be presented in the next meeting of ECC.

The caretaker government has started taking industrial and trade sectors on board before raising gas tariff. Commerce minister and energy minister are taking industrial sector into confidence.

The local production of gas is 3.4 billion square feet per day in the country while one billion square feet gas is being imported daily.
Circular debt of gas has reached the record high level of 2900 billion.

The IMF has put the conditionality of ending gas circular debt to save the country from bankruptcy.
