IMF rejects relief plan for electricity consumers consuming 400 units per month

ISLAMABAD, September 07 (Online): IMF while rejecting the proposal of relief in electricity bills to consumers consuming upto 400 units per month .

Sources said agreement has reached between IMF and the government on receiving the bill upto 200 units in installments from the consumers. Final approval in this regard will be obtained from cabinet.

Finance ministry has said the consumers consuming 200 units will be able to pay their bills in installments. No penalty will be imposed on the consumers if they pay bills after due date.

According to finance ministry documents the installments relief will be allowed for August 2023.
As many as 40 lakh consumers are likely to get temporary relief due to facility installments of bills upto 200 units.

it is pertinent to mention here that 32000000 consumers could get relief if the installments are allowed upto 400 units.

IMF has also stressed on launching crackdown against power and gas pilferers and improving recovery of outstanding bills.

IMF has also demanded for hiking gas tariff from 45 to 50 percent from July 01.
It is pertinent to mention here relief plan sent by government of Pakistan to IMF on electricity bills earlier was rejected.
