Pakistan shared relief plan in electricity bills with IMF

ISLAMABAD 31 August (Online): Pakistan has shared relief plan in electricity bills with IMF.

The finance ministry has given a written confirmation to the IMF to collect the August and September bills in installments.

According to the details, after approval from IMF, Consumers who have consumed 400 units will get relief to pay bill in installments

According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, the IMF may agree to receive electricity bills from consumers if the IMF agrees; there may be an agreement for 2 months.

An answer is likely to be received today from the IMF on the relief in electricity bills.

While there will be no relief for tax reduction, however, consent to receive the bill in installments may be obtained.

It is to mention that yesterday the caretaker government had submitted proposals to the IMF for relief in electricity bills.

Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar had a virtual interaction with IMF representative Esther Perez.

Sources of Finance Ministry said that discussion was held with IMF for relief in electricity bills.

IMF was informed about the situation after increase in electricity bills.

IMF was briefed on stance of government for relief.

Suggestions were made to IMF for relief in electricity bills.

Sources told that IMF had asked for written plan regarding relief in electricity bills.

In the meeting of the federal cabinet, a decision could not be taken to give relief to consumers in electricity bills.

The meeting of federal cabinet was held under Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar.

Caretaker Federal Cabinet was briefed that IMF agreement is the biggest obstacle in providing relief.
