MQM delegation meets with Chief Election Commissioner

ISLAMABAD 28 August (Online): MQM has proposed to complete the delimitation of constituencies and revision of electoral lists before general elections.

A 3-member delegation of MQM under Dr Farooq Sattar met with Chief Election Commissioner on Monday and presented their suggestions.

While talking to media Dr Farooq Sattar said that we have presented our suggestions to Chief Election Commissioner.

He said that Election Commission (EC) and MQM are on one page on matter of constituencies and MQM supported Election Commission (EC) on matter of constituencies before general elections.

He said that delimitation of constituencies after census is a constitutional requirement.

We also demand that delimitation of constituencies and revision of electoral lists should be completed as soon as possible.

He said that delimitation of constituencies may not decrease or increase the number of seats in the national or provincial assembly in the country but there may be a difference in the number of seats at district level.

He said that PPP has removed millions of votes by changing the constituencies of MQM-dominated areas including Karachi. In the recent census the population of Karachi alone has increased by 7 million.

He said that MQM is not in favor of delay in elections therefore necessary process of constituencies be completed before elections.
