Proceedings against members of assembly involved in not showing gifts in assets: Court issues notice

LAHORE, August 09 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notice to Election Commission (EC) and other respondents on the petition seeking proceedings against all the members of assembly who have not shown Toshakhana gifts in their assets.

The petition filed by Nadeem Sarwar advocate came up for hearing before a single bench of LHC led by Justice Rahil Kamran here Wednesday.

The petitioner took the plea in the petition that chairman PTI was awarded three years punishment on Election Commission (EC) plea. EC is not meeting the norms of justice. No proceedings has been initiated against members of assemblies who have not shown Toshakhana gifts in their assets.

The petitioner has taken the plea Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Yousuf Raza Gillani did not show Toshakhana gifts in their assets. But EC is not taking action against them deliberately. Therefore, court should order to take action against all those members of assembly who have not shown toshakhana gifts in assets.

The court issued notice to federal government and others besides issuing notice to Attorney General and others for assistance.

The court while appointing president Supreme Court Bar, vice chairman Punjab Bar as amicus curiae adjourned the proceedings.
