India-Pakistan World Cup clash spurs sky-high Ad rates

ISLAMABAD July 27 (Online): The highly anticipated India-Pakistan match at the 2023 World Cup is scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.

The immense interest surrounding this high-stakes encounter has not only captivated fans but also drawn the attention of advertisers. Disney Star, the official broadcaster of the World Cup in India, has seized the opportunity and hiked advertising rates significantly. In an astonishing move, they are demanding a staggering 30 lakh Indian rupees (INR) for every 10 seconds of advertising during the India vs Pakistan match.

Comparatively, the standard rate for a 30-second advertising spot during other World Cup matches is set at INR 7 lakh.
Several advertising agencies now have access to Disney Star’s rate card, which is now available through exchange4media.

India-Pakistan match is expected to smash viewership records, as it has done in previous World Cup editions. In past tournaments, the contest has attracted an enormous audience, with millions of viewers tuning in from all over the world. The T20 World Cup game last year recorded a viewership of 1.8 crore on Hotstar and 1.4 crore on the Asia Cup.

The 2019 World Cup match witnessed a staggering 273 million viewers on television and an additional 50 million on various digital platforms in India alone, solidifying its status as the most-watched cricket match ever.

Given the unparalleled excitement surrounding this rivalry, Disney Star is banking on the India-Pakistan match to be a lucrative venture, hoping to capitalize on its unparalleled popularity and appeal.
