ISLAMABAD July 27 (Online): Pakistan is ranked 99th out of 129 countries who caught by hunger in the world, the main reasons of which are the political and economic crisis, as well as the lack of access and affordability of the common man to equal opportunities.
According to the international news Agency, in the 2022 report of the Global Hunger Index (GHI), Pakistan is at the 99th position with a score of 26.1 and the situation is not good even in the first 6 months of this year.
Pakistan’s score in 2007 and 2000 reports was 32.1 and 36.8 respectively and the worst score was 29.6 in 2014.
According to the GHI Report 2022, estimates show that 46 countries, including Pakistan, will not be able to overcome food shortages at least by 2030.
Earlier, a United Nations report prepared jointly by the World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization had alarmingly revealed that more than 8 million people in Pakistan would face “extreme food insecurity”. Among the reasons for Pakistan’s lagging behind in the global index ranking is the political and economic crisis as well as the lack of access to opportunities and affordability of the common man.
The Global Hunger Index report states that war, conflict, climate changes, and COVID-19 have made millions of people vulnerable to food insecurity in 2022.
The report further states that South Asia is the region with the highest level of food insecurity in the world, where the growth rate of children is also the lowest.The highest rate of child loss in any region of the world is also here.
It is worth mentioning that the report published in October last year stated that sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia are regions where food is the highest level of deficiency.
