Customs seizes Rs.303 million worth cigarettes smuggling

ISLAMABAD 16 June (Online): Customs Intelligence has seized 303Pkr worth cigarettes smuggling in country wide joint crackdown operation which went long for ten days.

Largest catch was seized from Balochistan which was 4,280,000 sticks of foreign brands of cigarettes, worthing Rs. 114.2 million.

Rs. 69.7 million worth cigarettes having 1, 420, 700stick of high-end brands were apprehended during eight operations in Punjab.

Customs held 1,294,000 sticks of smuggling cigarettes valuing Pkr of 75.3 million from Punjab during intelligence based operations.

KPK was seizure 1,155,000 sticks of smuggling cigerattes worth of pkr43.9 million which was also held during intelligence based operations by Customs authorities.

During last ten days operations of customs intelligence, total 8,149, 700 sticks worth of 303 million were seized across the country.

The tally of seizures of smuggled cigarettes in this fiscal year FY 2022-23 reached to 33,994,850 sticks having the value of Rs. 1324 million held by Customs Intelligence.

The Chairman FBR, Mr. Asim Ahmad, and the Director General, Customs Intelligence, Mr. Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, lauded the efforts of Customs Intelligence Quetta, Karachi, Multan, Gwadar, Hyderabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. They also acknowledged that despite minimal human resource and logistics Customs Intelligence is effectively doing efforts to eradicate the menace of smuggling in general and of smuggled cigarettes in particular.
