Federal cabinet split over implementation of emergency in country

Islamabad, May 12 (Online): In the second session of the federal cabinet, members unable to agree on the issue of the implementation of emergency in the country.

The Pakistan Peple’s Party (PPP) opposed the implementation of Article 232; the Cabinet has decided to take all matters related to the conduct of the Supreme Court and other courts to the Parliament on Monday and to hold rallies to express solidarity with the Pakistan Army. All the allies will hold rallies after consulting their respective parties.

According to sources, the second session of the federal cabinet meeting was held on Friday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which important constitutional and legal issues including the implementation of emergency were considered.

Prime Minister Nazir Tarar briefed the cabinet on the constitutional points related to the implementation of emergency.
In the meeting, most of the cabinet members advised the Prime Minister to implement emergency in the country, while the People’s Party opposed the implementation of Article 232, after which the federal cabinet postponed the decision to implement emergency.

According to the sources, in the PDM meeting presided over by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the implementation of emergency was also suggested.

According to the sources, it was decided to take all matters related to the conduct of the Supreme Court and other courts to the Parliament on Monday.

The federal government has also decided to take out rallies to express solidarity with the Pakistan Army. All allies will take out rallies after consulting their respective parties.
