Hansal Mehta on Faraaz: Box office collections should not become the yardstick to decide the quality of a film

LAHORE,April ,12,(Online) Hansal Mehta’s next film Faraaz, featuring Zahan Kapoor and Aditya Rawal in lead roles releases in a few days. During the film’s recent launch, the acclaimed director spoke his heart out on the kind of films he makes and how the yardstick to judge every film and its success should be different.

Of late, the discussions in the film fraternity have centered around box office receipts, what with Shah Rukh Khan’s latest offering ‘Pathaan’ breaking many bo records. But Hansal believes, not every film can be judged by the numbers. He said, “Every film has its audience and not all films become blockbusters on a Friday or Saturday. Every film finds its own audience. Box office collections should not become the yardstick to decide the quality of the film or how successful it is.”

Mehta also revealed that the reason he makes a film can be very different from his peers and colleagues. Elaborating on his process as a filmmaker, Mehta said, “Every time to start fresh, I let go of what I have done in past. I don’t have any copies of my old films. I don’t watch my old films and I dwell upon them only for the learning’s I get from them. It’s like a new beginning.” Talking about his next motivation after Faraaz, he revealed, “February 3 will be a new beginning for me posts the release of Faraaz. I’ll start working on a different story. I’ll watch edits of my shows.”

Hansal Mehta’s Faraaz is based on the terrorist attack of July 2016 that took place at a bakery in Dhaka. Apart from Zahan Kapoor and Aditya Rawal the film stars Sachin Lalwani, Jatin Sareen, Ninad Bhatt, Harshal Pawar, Palak Lalwani and Ressham Sahaani. The film is produced by Anubhav Sinha and Bhushan Kumar.
