Saud Shakeel stands solid as Pakistan still lag 42 runs behind

KARACHI – January 4 (ONLINE) Middle order batsman Saud Shakeel hit a century ton Wednesday to resist attacking Kiwi bowlers, putting Pakistan in a relatively better position, where they trailed by 42 runs at the end of Karachi Test’s day 3.

Pakistan have one last wicket in hand, while Saud Shakeel is resisting the New Zealanders at 124*. He remained the top scorer for Green Shirts as they concluded day 3 at 407-9.

New Zealanders were bowled out for 449 in their first innings. Devon Convoy was their highest run getter as he posted brilliant 122.

In reply, Pakistan innings was built by Shakeel, Imam and Sarfaraz Ahmed, who managed to score 122, 83 and 78 respectively.

Shakeel swept spinner Michael Bracewell for a boundary and then took a sharp single to reach three figures in 319 minutes of stoic batting.

Sarfaraz Ahmed was stumped on 78 in the penultimate over before the break, having scored his third consecutive half-century of the series.

New Zealand would look to rap Pakistani innings up at earliest today, and utilize the fourth day solely to create a match winning position for themselves.
