ISLAMABAD – November 14 (ONLINE) Jamat-e-Islami Emir Siraj-ul-Haq said Monday country was in dire need of a renewed social contract to implement ‘constitutional supremacy’.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the JI Emir lambasted both PDM government and the PTI for allegedly ‘fighting for their own agendas’. Siraj said he was ready to mediate between the two political sides to hold talks on apolitical role of military establishment, electoral reforms and supremacy of law and constitution.
“The rift between PTI and PDM is only to safeguard their own interests, and this rift has cost the country a lot,” he said. The Senator said that ruling elite had forgotten flood affected and laymen during their struggle for power.
Siraj-ul-Haq said both the PDM and PTI governments sought loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and continued to promote and interest based economy. He said the only way forward were fresh general elections, but however showed reluctance that elections without electoral reforms would merely be a ‘fraud’.
The JI Emir said current government was running away from holding local body polls across country. “This shows the reality of their slogans for democracy and civil supremacy,” he regretted.
Senator Siraj ul Haq alleged both the PTI and PDM government of “selling out Kashmir” and handing Dr. Afia Siddique over to the United States. “Current inflation and unemployment is the result of their anti-people policies,” he maintained.
