Pak athletes enthrall audience at opening ceremony of Asian Open Taekwondo C’ship

ISLAMABAD, Nov 02 (APP): A jaw-dropping performance by Pakistan taekwondo athletes left the audience spellbound at the opening ceremony of the COMBAXX 4th Asian Open International Taekwondo Championship at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex on late Wednesday.

The ceremony kicked off with a flag parade of participating nations and a stunning display of taekwondo prowess by Pakistan taekwondo team that created the sensation.

Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari formally inaugurated the championship.

Apart from President of Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) Waseem Ahmed Janjua, a large number of diplomats and fans attended the ceremony. More than 400 athletes and officials from 18 countries are participating in the four-day championship. These countries include America, Afghanistan, Albania, Bahrain, Egypt, Great Britain, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Oman, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Syria, and United Arab Emirates. Competitions are being held in various categories of men and women.

Speaking on the occasion, the IPC minister lauded the PTF for holding the event. “I hope this event will be an important milestone for the expanding taekwondo in Pakistan”, he said.

He welcomed the international athletes and officials, who have arrived in Pakistan to showcase their skills and abilities. “I welcome you all in Pakistan. I am sure you will enjoy your stay here,” he said.
