FIA delegated more powers for stemming inflows of hate campaign, fake news against institutions on social media

ISLAMABAD, Nov 02 (Online): Federal cabinet has delegated more powers for prevention of hate campaign and fake news against institutions on social media.

Sources told Online government has delegated more powers to FIA to make it more powerful. Federal cabinet has accorded approval for making more amendments in FIA act. Cabinet has approved summary through circulation. However final approval regarding amendment in FIA act will be obtained from parliament.

Sources revealed FIA will be able to take action regarding hate material on social media after the amendment is approved by the parliament.

Under this law the accused will be liable to seven years imprisonment. FIA will be too authorized to take action against any fake news and rumor on social media after the approval of this amendment by the parliament. Earlier only police was authorized to take action.

It has been said in the summary that hate material and the matters for inciting people against the institutions have come galore on social media. Social media is flooded with false news. The wrong news can foment rebel among the personnel of state institutions. The wrong news can incite and pit any group or community against each other .
