Railways’ resumption to take several weeks: minister

SUKKUR – September 13 (ONLINE) Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said Tuesday suspended train operation amidst floods will take few weeks for resumption.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, the minister said situation could only be clarified if the flood water is drained. “We cannot run passenger trains at the moment,” he said categorically.

He said that railway infrastructure in Sindh and Balochistan is damaged the most. “We cannot play with peoples’ lives,” he maintained.

Rafique urged the nation to fight this calamity ‘brave heartedly’ and said that we have to trust our resources. He revealed that current Railway deficit was around 13 billion rupees.

The minister criticized previous PTI government and argued that former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his team had ruined country’s economy. He said that at least 15 years were required to rebuild Railways’ department.
