Senate Committee on Health passes PMDC, PIMS bills

Islamabad, August 23 (Online): The Senate Standing Committee on National Health has approved Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Amendment Bill 2022 and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Bill 2022 by majority vote.

After the PMDC bill was approved by the Senate Standing Committee on Health, the legal status of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) ended.

The entry test for admissions in medical and dental colleges would now be held at the provincial levels. After the Senate Health Committee approved both the PIMS and PMDC bills, both the bills have become operational.

The meeting of the committee was held in the parliament house under the chairmanship of the committee chairman, Senator Dr. Muhammad Humayun Muhammad.

The members of the committee discussed the significance of the bills during the debate on the two bills.

Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel said that every day we end one strike or another, the hospital is a delicate place, we cannot do experiments here, the previous government wanted to generate revenue in the government hospital.

The chairman committee said that the bidding for the purchase of MRI in PIMS was wrong from the beginning, it was told that it will be done in December and it has nothing to do with MTI.

After a long discussion, the committee has approved Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Amendment Bill 2022 and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Bill 2022 by majority vote.

In addition to the Federal Minister of Health and the officials of the Ministry of Health, the members of the committee participated in the committee meeting.
