Miftah predicts ‘Rupee comeback’ within next two weeks

ISLAMABAD – July 31 (ONLINE) Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Sunday voiced optimism that the pressure on the rupee, which has seen a sharp drop against the dollar in recent weeks, would ease within the next two weeks.

Addressing a news conference along with Coordinator to Prime Minister on Economy and Energy Bilal Kayani in Islamabad on Sunday, Miftah Ismael said the incumbent government has saved the country from default by implementing prudent economic policies.

He said country’s import bill has decreased by 2.7 billion dollars in the current month as the country imported goods worth five billion dollars only in this month as compared to 7.7 billion dollars in the previous month.

The Minister said with decreasing imports, pressure on Pakistan’s economy will be reduced from the next month.

Miftah Ismael said Economic Coordination Committee has approved to remove ban on imports except cars, mobile phones and home appliances.
He said government is determined to minimize the current account deficit and steps are being taken to widen the tax net.
