Woman cyclist accuses Indian national coach of “inappropriate behavior”

NEW DELHI – June 7 (ONLINE) A top Indian cyclist has accused the national sprint team chief coach R K Sharma of “inappropriate behaviour” during a camp in Slovenia, Indian media reported.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the cyclist filed complaint against the coach via Email to the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

Media report said that athlete was immediately called back to country to ensure her safety, while the SAI and Cycling Federation of India (CFI) have formed separated bodies to probe into the matter.

In its statement, the CFI said it “stands with the complainant” and SAI’s official statement was quoted by the media report as the Sports body had “received a complaint from a cyclist of inappropriate behavior by a coach during a foreign exposure camp in Slovenia”.

“Following the complaint by the athlete, SAI has immediately brought her back to India to ensure her safety and has also constituted a committee to investigate the matter,” the statement said, adding that the “matter is being dealt (with) on priority and will be resolved shortly”.

According to Indian media, the cyclist was a part of the Indian team that was in Slovenia to prepare for the Asian Championship.
