Interior Minister hints at early elections

LAHORE – March 24 (ONLINE) Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said Thursday there was a possibility of early elections in the country, adding that government allegedly will be supported by some opposition lawmakers during the voting on No-confidence move against PM Imran Khan.

“Opposition will be treated with a nasty surprise on the day of voting over no-confidence motion” Rashid said, while addressing press talk in Lahore.

Interior Minister warned the dissident lawmakers of ruling PTI that they would not be treated with respect anywhere. He said those who were running campaign against army and judiciary will be ‘dealt with’.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said his ministry had ordered deployment of 1000 Frontier Corpse (FC) soldiers along with 9000 policemen in the federal capital to deal with any possible law and order situation in coming days.

“This [deployment] has taken place on directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Both the government and opposition will be allowed to hold their public rallies,” he added.

Sheikh Rashid said Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the ‘largest political gathering of country’s history’ on the evening of March 27. “I have never seen such zeal and determination in nation. This is the fight for Pakistan’s sovereignty,” Rashid said.

Interior Minister said that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar is going nowhere. “I am standing by PM Imran Khan. We want progress of democracy and the country. I had recommended imposing the Governor’s rule, which was rejected by PM Imran Khan,” he maintained.
