Maryam demands safe evacuation of Pakistani students stranded in Ukraine

ISLAMABAD – February 25 (ONLINE): Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif Friday demanded government to ensure safe evacuation of ‘stranded’ Pakistani students in Ukraine, as Russia launched full-fledged military attack on the former Soviet Union territory.

“Is there anyone listening to the entreaties of hundreds of Pakistani students stranded in Ukraine waiting to be evacuated?” Maryam Nawaz Sharif asked Friday through her twitter statement.

Situation in Ukraine got intense Friday evening after battles took place between Ukrainian and Russian troops on Ukrainian streets. Global media reported that Ukrainian officials were now preparing for a Russian assault on the capital, Kyiv, as the full-scale attack enters a second day.

Ukrainian President President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday 137 people have been killed so far, including civilians.

The UN’s refugee agency says about 100,000 Ukrainians have been displaced, with thousands fleeing to nearby European states.

The Pakistan Foreign Office advised on Friday students stranded in Ukraine to travel to Ternopil “to enable evacuations” as the situation improves.

“Announcement As situation improves, all Pakistani students should move to Tarnopil to enable evacuation.” The Embassy tweeted.
